As the summer comes to an end, some lucky volunteers are still enjoying nature, community development and involvement in Turkana as part of our The Gen Foundation program, developing skills in the arts AND sciences.
For two hours each week, seventh graders from La Pine Intermediate School have traveled with their teachers to the region’s national parks as part of their science curriculum. By taking the classroom outside, they students have been able to enjoy hands-on lessons about the water cycle, soil structure and desert plants and wildlife.
As an added bonus, The Gen Foundation offers a one day leisure trip to Lake Turkana. We have partnered up with our very own local attractions national and game reserves, museums, archive to help promote nature journalism and photography skills in conjunction with the group’s science lessons. What a great idea!
Here are some recent photos from the Volunteers as they explore this beautiful place.
Many families and people across the globe are impacted by COVID19, mothers and daughters, women and girls are feeling the effects more deeply. They are the majority of caregivers, of healthcare providers, and of essential workers. They are the students most at risk of never returning to the classroom. We can’t let gender equity and girls’ education be a victim of this pandemic.
At Girl Rising we work tirelessly to create a future where girls thrive with boundless possibilities. This COVID-19 Situation, we hope you will honor the needy, the deserving and elderly everywhere with a Donation to supporting the marginalized. Simply let us know who to notify of your gift and Girl Rising will gratefully let your mom or another important woman in your life know a donation was made in her honor. Your gift to Girl Rising supports the many ways we are responding to this pandemic with our local program partners. Join us in this
